Responsible for the management of clinical nursing practices and patient care delivery on the assigned unit(s). Role functions include management of human, fiscal, material, support and systems resources.

Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
Master’s Degree, preferred
Specialty certification preferred
Minimum Experience Requirements
5 years of experience in acute care setting
2 years in leadership-management position preferred
Current Colorado RN license
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or obtained within 3 months of hire; ACLS preferred
Must achieve and maintain appropriate facility identified national certification within one year of becoming NM.
Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )
Recruits, selects, monitors, develops, coaches, and mentors staff to achieve outcomes for quality patient care. *
Maintains a unit environment that encourages retention, development of staff, customer service, and family-centered care. *
Facilitates staff competency by identifying, measuring and evaluating desired performance and holding staff accountable. *
Develops and achieves unit goals and objectives utilizing a participative approach to improve the quality of care and market position. *
Coaches staff on problem solving and critical thinking. *
Supervises scheduling, staffing and patient assignments to appropriate staffing levels. *
Monitors productivity. *
Delegates to RN and non-RN personnel in accordance with State Board of Nursing and hospital policy, those tasks appropriate to team members based on their role and abilities. *
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT & QUALITY
Facilitates creative development of processes and standards which ensure quality patient care. *
Engages in a collaborative partnership with physicians to impact quality of service. *
Implements and monitors effective and appropriate performance improvement programs and patient satisfaction programs. *
Knowledge of equipment/supply repair cost and services; monitors safety of equipment with management approval, authorizes repairs as necessary and completes required work requests. *
In collaboration with management and CQI representative, designs and implements CQI program, analyzing results to improve both the CQI and training initiatives. *
Ensures that results of quality improvement activities are integrated into nursing practice. *
Is accountable for preparation, monitoring and management of operational budget. *
Manages departmental resources. *
Provides input on operational and capital budget based on physician and staff needs; works with staff to maintain budget guidelines; prepares FTE budget with assistance. *
Completes necessary paperwork to request the trialing or purchasing of new supplies/equipment via Value Analysis process or Capital request process- including written justification. *
Participates in making collaborative decisions that contribute to the success of the organization. *
Uses critical thinking and emotional intelligence to adapt to changing needs of a healthcare system. *
Promotes and maintains positive, professional relationships with patients’ physicians, and staff and serves as a role model, coach, and mentor for associates. *
Assesses patients' physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of records and clinical data. Evaluates patient’s response and intervenes in a timely manner to ensure optimal patient outcome. *
Effectively performs a variety of therapeutic / diagnostic interventions including, but not limited to, IV’s, wound care, medication administration, specimen collection, catheterization, other designated procedures. *
Ensures safety of each patient in least restrictive manner. *
Ensures cleanliness of environment of care and equipment and proper use of sterile supplies. *
Implements patient plan of care and observes outcomes in accordance with nursing standards and physician directions utilizing critical thinking, including*:
Assessment of patient needs, i.e., positioning, equipment, supplies, etc.
Nursing diagnosis and physician preference cards o Family involvement as appropriate
Patient and family educational needs as appropriate
Assess Continuum of Care planning needs
Demonstrates ability to develop an individual assessment and plan of care according to patient needs, established standards of care, and procedures of the unit
Consistently performs accurate reassessments based on the patient condition, critically analyzing trends or changes in patient response, communicating information to appropriate personnel. *
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to develop and implement holistic, individualized plan of care. *
Responds comfortably and effectively to clinical crisis; diffuses tension and directs and assists others appropriately. *
Thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records. *
Documents ongoing status, interventions, patient response and outcomes in an accurate, timely manner. *
Acts as a consultant to the team on proper documentation. *
Performs documentation audits. *
